At the Australian Institute of Robotic Orthopaedics (AIRO), we are making tomorrow’s surgical techniques a reality today. Our mission is not about simply creating a new osteotomy tool, or a new orthopaedic robot, it’s about developing the means to restore an individual’s pre-disease or injury joint function.
Our vision is an intelligent operating system that integrates 3D data with a high-speed laser cutting tool. This system allows surgeons to implant the next generation of protheses, from simple resurfacing to total replacement.
Unlike surgery today we can avoid the unnecessary removal of healthy bone and critical stabilising ligaments. In the future we see this capability as being applicable to all joints in the body.
