AIRO Evolves into ArthroLase, Setting the Stage for Market Debut

ArthroLase, previously known as the Australian Institute of Robotic Orthopaedics (AIRO), is thrilled to unveil its new name as part of a comprehensive rebranding strategy.

The new name, 'ArthroLase,' embodies the company's fundamental purpose, combining the ideas of "Arthroplasty" and "Laser." The term "Lasing" originates from the acronym LASER, standing for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. This process is crucial to the functioning of a laser and sets laser light apart from other types of light, like those produced by a standard light bulb or the sun. The name change highlights the company's role in pioneering laser bone shaping technology to enhance joint replacement procedures.

Professor Riaz Khan, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Co-founder and Chairman of ArthroLase, emphasised, 'The decision to change our name is a strategic step forward in our mission to bring our innovative laser bone shaping technology to the forefront of the global arthroplasty market, valued at billions of dollars. The name ArthroLase reflects our commitment to precision, innovation, and excellence in orthopaedic patient care, embodying our dedication to accuracy, efficiency, and safety in every aspect of our work.”

Associate Professor Brett Robertson, Managing Director, CEO and co-founder of ArthroLase, highlighted the significance of the rebranding, remarking, 'The introduction of our new name is both timely and fitting. It marks a milestone in our company's evolution and underlines our steadfast dedication to the advancement of laser bone shaping technology. Our distinct role in this domain is now aptly encapsulated in our name, positioning us as pioneers in the global arthroplasty market.”

The rebranding follows ArthroLase's (formerly AIRO) recent recognition by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with the "Breakthrough Device Designation" for its High-speed Intelligent Laser Osteotomy (HAiLO™) system. This groundbreaking technology is set to revolutionise knee replacement surgeries.
